Here is the complete run-down of my project this year, which involves the complete restoration and hybridisation (is that a word?lol) of my first ever car a 1984 Mini Mayfair!

I started with a relatively rust free (well almost) car, which needed the following panels

rear valance
battery box
outer sills
door step repairs
scuttle corners and A panels

I have so far got to the stage where the shell is prepped and cleaned for welding, and also trial fitted my frame & engine combo.

The frame and engine that I am using are below

Allspeed VTEC Frame
Custom Billet Driveshafts
Allspeed H/D adjustable rose jointed Tie Bars & Bottom Arms
Custom alternator bracket
Heavy Duty CV Joints

B16A JDM Spec (CRX siR Engine with 70k on clock)
Cylinder head re-built with new valve guides, valves lapped in and double valve springs fitted to inlet and outlet springs for fitmemnt of type R cams at later date.
New sump gasket, engine gaskets and seals where necessary.

Here are some piccys of what has been done so far.

to be added tomorrow, need to compile all what I have into some sort of order first!

Okay then, so the first step was to get the rusty bits off of the shell, sills, rear valance, battery box and a panels, that was the easy part!
The floor has so far been patched where necessary, with many holes being no bigger than a 5p coin.
I am currently waiting on someone to weld my sills/rear valance and battery box on, so I can get the rear subframe back on and the rollcage bolted in.

Whilst I am waiting, I decided a trial fit and a good cut up of the bulkhead was needed.
I have so far come across a few snags (you will have seen my recent posts in the Honda Forum).

Anyhow, I have managed to get past all of that, and have got to a stage where things are looking alot more car like, and at the point where it can almost be put back on its wheels at the front!

here are some piccys

Next up is to cut & shut the gear shift mech and get that mounted, as well as re-instate the pedal box and get the steering column mounted!

I will update when I have made more progress, let me know what you think for the time being!

AT LAST - some updates, I have had a few days off of work again, one a sick day, and one a rostered day off, perfect for getting stuff done on the car!

I have re-mounted the engine/frame to the car, with fingers crossed and my eyes shut, and guess what? My bulkhead box fits! - I only roughly made a template and had a go at it a day after getting my MIG, the results are suprisingly good!

This shows roughly where it sits, its bolted to the head at the moment, and has excellent clearance (25mm+) underneath, and around 10-15mm at the rear of the manifold.

An interior shot of the box, I will be reinforcing the bulkhead again with some 25mm box section, as a matter of precaution! - I also have to weld some tabs from the lower dash rail to the bulkhead to put some strength back into it!

Thats that for now then, working tomorrow, but will crack on with the A Panels and more welding on sunday!

Let me know what you think, and if you have any suggestions!
