Hi all,

I need to get my MOT done this week, and I have just realised that my reversing light don't work!! I'm guessing this is due to the Reverse sensor plug not being connected properly, can anyone tell me where this is located so I can keep my car legal?? I've looked underneath briefly but can't see anything obvious.

Many Thanks

Joe

Hi Joe,

I don't actually think you need a working reverse light for the MOT. I think it should pass without one, in fact, i'm 100% sure it will.

Sorry i can't help you out on gettin' it working though.

cheers.

I have forgotten what colour of the wire but i got minie working a few weeks ago. Have a look at the wireing diagram. Has it actually been connected?

No I spoke to Geoff and he said he probably didn't connect it up, I just haven't been able to get hold of him, very hard for me to phone from work so I thought I'd just pop a post here, thanks for the help however, I'll have a look around the gearbox as it's gotta be somewhere around there..

Doesn't this come under one of those "if its fitted it must work" MOT regs. Mine failed on after market high intesity rears one year. So the MOT man took them off and passed it

I think its towards the front of the car - thats what my memory is telling me anyway - could be wrong.

Joe

On my mini which is an 1987 one the wires are under the carpet by the gear stick. this is where bullet connectors connect the sensor to the loom. Don't know if it would be different on yours.

With regards to if its not there then it can't fail. I took a rear fog light off an 85 mini i had and took the switch out as i don't like the look of them just hanging there off the rear valance. Took it down the mot station and it failed on the fog light (among other things!!) The mot man said that as it was fitted with one when it was made then it needs to have one. What i would like to do is change one of the reversing lights to a fog light fit a red bulb in it and see if that passes.

There are two wires coming from the front of the gearbox near to the clutch arm's pivot point. They are also the only wires from the gearbox, B or D series (D might be slightly different location but wouldnt think so).

Just had the van in today for its MOT.

My reversing lights haven't worked for ages, and he passed it. Said they don't need to work.............. weird huh???

I've done the conversion of putting a red bulb in a reverse light as a fog, passed the mot no problem.

Also turned mk1 rear indicators into reverse lights (need diodes and stuff and they stay amber...but bright enough to see backwards) ala the aussie cars...and the mot'er passed that...

The Reversing light is definately not part of the test and there is no requirement for it to work even if fitted, However if the tester asks you to put all the rear lamps on and the operation of the reversing lamp effects the operation of another lamp then the other lamp may be failed for being effected by another lamp.
