Hi ll,
Does anyone know the correct sequence for static timing the B16A1 engine? I need to replace the dissy and the engine has been spun over while its been off. Any ideas? :idea:

Don't know about the VTEC but the standard way to do any engine would be to remove the cam cover, turn the engine over watching the valves open and close, when the inlet valve on No1 cylinder has opened and closed you know you are on the compression stroke, continue turning the engine over until the timing marks on the crank pulley/front cover are aligned, you now know you are on No1 cylinder firing, if you have not removed the distributer cap you can check to see which lead goes to No1 cylinder, aligning the rotor arm towards the No1 lead location on the cap you can insert the distributer, if you are lucky the distributer will have elongated holes were the fixing/adjusting bolts go and timing marks on the distributer and block/head, align the timing marks if it has them and tighten the bolts.
Another quick way is to look for old marks on the distributer were the fixing bolts have been tightened before, you can use these as a guide to the correct location of the distributer, it would probably be sufficient to get the engine running so that you can set the timing with a strobe light.
If you don't have timing marks on the distributer and block/head then a test light has to be inserted in the wiring to the distributer (in-line), turning the distributer will cause the light to go on and off, this is the point when the spark is generated and so is the place you want to tighten the distributer bolts.
Be aware though that I have not tried the test light process on a VTEC and so care should be taken incase it messes up the electronics !

Yeah that was what I was gunna try but I wonded if there is anything special with the vtec, also the dissy is from a diffrent engine as mine was smashed when I bought it and the pully is a differnt on still :?
Oh well I think I'll give it a go and see what happens
