I have been involved on another forum in the type of cam gears in this vehicle. They have called it a D16A8 engine in this particular car.

As far as the chronology goes, it's like this as far as I know it.

86-89 USDM Integra had the D16A1. Euro/Aus models for this engine were called D16A8 or 9 depending on the catalytic converter. The top models were the JDM ZC's.

On the other forum it was stated that the Rover 416gti is a D16A8 and it was also stated that it had 38 teeth on the cam gears. It hasn't been clarified what year of car the engine is from. All the models I have stated should have 40 teeth on the cam gears as they are all from the same class.

Any comments that I can pass on? JS

Now for all I know the Rover could have gotten some hybrid Honda engine. Can any of you elaborate on this

From what I can tell, the D16A8 was also used in the US Spec Civic CRX DI and the 1990 UK Spec Concerto SX. I've started writing a spreadhseet with them all on - keepi adding to it everytime I find another honda manual !!! If it is the same as the concerto (the manual for which mentions it being built by Rover!!) then you can download that on Honda's website !
Hope this helps !

Crips!
No idea on that one, but from how I understand it, the 216gti and 416gti are basically the same engine as the crx 16V & Concerto but with the addition of a CAT & O2 sensor. The ECU's are totally interchangeable between all of these cars if you remember about the CAT & O2 issue.

I would think the Rover is a D16A9 since that is supposed to be the one with a CAT.
Other than that, as far as I know, the engines should be pretty much identical. Dont be taking at as gospel tho.

Well, I have to eat crow as I got the designations mixed up. Turns out 1G cars were USDM D16A1, Euro/Aus D16A3, JDM ZC. The 2G cars are the Euro D16A8/9 and JDM ZC. I hope that's correct now. Having not seen the Euro models does create difficulties.

Anyone have one of the A8/9 cars to be able to count the cam gear teeth so that I can confirm the numbers for my files? JS

OK just to put the cat amongst the pigeons, my 416Gti engine is the single cam and is stamped D16A7!!

It's an early non cat car 1990 spec

Interesting !! D16A7 is also, apparently, used in the US 1988 Civic CRX Coupe I - as you say SOHC 16v using their PPGM-FI, non-CAT version according to my list!! Might have to put this list on my site at some point - and get updates from people to help build it up !!! :D

I had a USDM crx Si with a D16a7 engine for a bit which was a single cam. In the Rover this engine was in the 216 & 416 GSi for sure. Earlier GTi's might well have used it however.
