Well having to many projects to do I thought I would make things worse but starting this Honda project.
The shell; it was an 1100 special back in the day, then was built as a heavy weight salom hillclimber. In 2005 the car was drown in a flood here in Switzerland.
The owner clean it up a bit but lost intrest after fitting a new motor.
I bought it off him with the idea of fitting an R1 in the front. this has been covered in TMF, as always a change of plan came about. I removed the R1 before the car was finished I want to correct or more make improvements to the R1 set up before I use it in anger.
I had picked up a d16A9 with all the bits from someone local who plays with Civic.
The engines not monster power but at 125 bhp to start with I think its good enough.

With the engine in the back, how do you plan in changing gear?

I will get that problem sorted when i get that far, LOL.
I have seen that Z cars sell some parts to do that job using cables and levers so I will have to look into that.

I think you'll find they use the Honda K-Series engine, it's a totally different animal to the previous engines. The B/D-Series do not use cables to change gear.

Your right that the engines a K in the Z cars but the idea is the same, you need to move the gear selector in and out and left and right. You could do this using rose joints and tubing to get around the engine, ever loooked at the old Europas gear selector system on the 5 speed? that had to go round the engine and to the back of the car, by the time the esprit came out the tubing had changed to cables, so with that in mind I have the challenge before me.
do you have any ideas?

studying the photos on mr Screamers thead, I notice that a front subframe had been used for the rear suspension, this gave me the idea to do the same. so thats what i have been doing, cutting up a body to use these parts to hold the swing arms etc. :-) got the car to cut for free.

You should be able to use the whole gear change system and cables from a MGF. The Rover PG1 gearbox is a mirrored version of the gearbox on the D series engine so might be all a straight bolt on
