Greetings pop pickers,

Erm... ive been regularly reading the regulations but they appear to have changed of late. There seems to be 2 distinct classes that they have actual written regulations on:

"modified limited production cars and modified series production cars"
"hillclimb supersports cars"

The problem being, most of us cant fit into 'hillclimb supersports cars' because of the clause
13.6.1 - forced induction and/or fuel injection prohibited

which leaves modified limited production cars and modified series production cars which worrying sayes
12.8.2 The original type of suspension must be maintained (e.g. twin wishbone setup cannot replace a single wishbone suspension; a sliding pillar cannot be replaced by a MacPherson strut; a trailing link cannot be replaced by a wishbone or coaxial springing).
Which will mainly effects people like Andy, Paul and myself who have non standard rear suspension, but I believe it would even effect coil over runners...

The strange this is about the regs it still lists 14.1 (the list of vehicles that comply with groups a - g. Where (g) is Sports Racing Cars not complying with 14.1.(c). (where c is sports racing cars). Yet fails to list regulations for 14.1.(c)....

very weird, thanks msa.

Anything people know of this matter would be brilliant!

Cheers

If you have an engine from a different manufacturer the car is SportsLibre which means you can have any suspension you like.

The (financial) downside of being in Sports Libre is that you need to have safety features in line with this clasification too. (Not too different from mod-prod to be honest)

Also, as you are turbocharging a large displacement engine you'll either need a National A 'Open' licence or to run in totally road legal condition (inc tyres). 2000cc's is max for a National B 'non race' licence & turbo makes the engine 1.4 X displacment.

Most of us run with National B 'non race' licence as we're still quite new to the sport (& licence is cheapest), but you can upgrade your licence by driving sensibly & getting 'clerk of course' signatures. You'll need 8 upgrade signatures to upgrade to a National A 'Open' licence.

This licence issue is rather bonkers as a 600bhp 'mod-prod' Subaru/Evo can run with a National B 'non-race' licence whereas Allan's Evo powered Mini with less BHP will require him to have a fancy licence. (Although I'm sure he'll have loads of CofC signatures by now.)

........... tis all good fun :)

I think you need 8 signatures to upgrade to a National A then 8 more to get a National A 'Open' licence.
Thats what I have done.

I'm hoping to get my first upgrade signature at Harewood, but for me there's no hurry as the car won't evolve for a while yet.

Blue Book
Page 131 Section H 16.2.1 confirms that 4 CofC signatures are required to upgrade National B 'Non Race' to National A.
Page 132 Section H 16.2.2 confirms that 4 CofC signatures are required to upgrade National A to National A 'Open'.

Eight signatures in total required & you can get 2 signatures at a double header even (Eg Ollies Mt in May.)

I'm sure there is something in the magic rule book that mentions 10 years, i can remember reading it that you had to have a Nat A for 10 years before you can upgrade to Open but surely that cannot be and must have been me reading it wrong

How on earth did this get on to saftey regs and engine size? lol.

Because if you're aiming to Sprint/Hillclimb your Mini we are opening your eyes to the fact that you'll end up in Libre class not a modified production class. This means you have to follow tighter safety regs & for your cunning 'turbo' plan you need to be fully conversant with the limits on engine size (in Libre) otherwise you could turn up at your first event with a car that you won't be able to race or a licence that is not high level enough.

One 'simple' question about the Blue Book usually triggers a whole debate as the regs are written in a very convoluted way.

Then people ask things like what does convoluted mean ;)
And the debate continues.

:D

what does convoluted mean?

Tsk tsk, maybe you should've listened at school then the Blue Book wouldn't seem so confusing. ;)
