Hey gents,

Could one of you point me towards the form that I need so that I can get Clerk of Course signatures for upgrading my race licence?

I've searched the interweb & can find lots of waffle but no form.

Cheers

The upgrade card is in your blue book.
Mine is between pages 128 - 129.

Am collecting parts to have a crack at turboing next year at some point. I thought a turbo would be wasted on FWD, but Andy Bellamy's s A-Series Metro Van made me realise that it could be tamed (kinda).

So I'm aiming at lowering compression with a cometic gasket & adding a GT28 on modified SR20DET manifold. With a turbo the XE can deliver an extra 100+bhp for a fraction of what it would cost for a 220bhp N/A high revver on injection.

Cheers for the info on the blue book Allan, I didn't think to look in there .

careful with the GT28, quite a peaky turbo. You might fair better with something like a IHI VF36 or similar if you want a standardish integral wastegate turbo?

Hey Matt, are the pistons standard 86mm or oversize? I have an 86.5 overbore on the block I hope to use. What's the sump mod? (I'm a total noob at this turbo shit :))

Cheers Alex, but I'm going down a cheap route so the sensible options are modified Evo manifold with a td05 (but turbo/comp are wrong way round) or modified 200sx with a t2 of some description. Is the IHIVF36 a ballbearing turbo off a Subaru? Donor manifold & space might be a problem.

Clearly I've only got a small amount of knowledge on the turbo subject (google is my friend), but I think a GT28 with circa 0.60AR will spool quite sensibly at 10-12psi. Also from a mechanical point of view I need to keep the turbo to the right of my alternator so the manifold & turbo combo need to be quite specific.

If the turbo thing works (ish) then I can mess on with T3/4 turbos with a flange mod on the SR20DET manifold.

yep, the VF36 is BB and twin scroll, very good turbo (for an OEM turbo) if you can get hold of one. What kind of power are you looking for?

worth a read pal, extremely good book.

If I can master this daft subject I'm after 2 different BHP's depending on whether I'm in corners or on straights & it was something the lads with their bonkers turbo metro said that suggested this was possible. (IE they modify their boost while on the move.) For control I'm after a nice smooth 200bhps around corners, but then in a straight line 300bhp+ would be fun. There's no point in having the big BHPs in the corners cos this will mess up my handling.

First thing to do is see if I can get any form of turbo to fit & work.

............ many thanks for the link to the book, tis now purchased :)

theoretically possible, although your fast getting into the realms of active vehicle dynamics and bespoke ECU's. Your best off doing what I'm doing and just torque limiting it in the first couple of gears, might help to prolong the life of your gearbox too... lol.
