View Full Version : Problems

Took the car out for a spin today and have noticed that the back wheels lock up before the front. I'm running a twin line system without a servo and metro front brakes. Anybody got any quick remedies? The car goes extremely well, and lights up the front wheels if you breath on the exelerator - I don't know how you Vauxhall/V-tec boys get the power down!!

Cheers

Hi Gordy - sounds like you could do with a brake bias adjuster for the rear. Out of interest what maseter cylinder / pedals etc do you use as I've not done my brakes yet - I'm going to use the k-series vented discs / calipers on the front but without the servo/

I'm using a single line bean can type master cylinder on mine, and I have no problems with the rears locking. I do have the pressure limiting thing on the rear subby.

The quickest solution to your problem would be a limiter in the rear line ( I presume its a front rear split not diagonal?), and adjustable would be best, although not cheapest. Alternatively you can change the size of the rear wheel cylinders, but this is rather a trial and arror affair by all accounts.

I have the opposite problem in that I cant get the fronts to lock (before or after the rears  ) except on gravel. I'm running a remote servo, and took that out of the equation today to see how much work that was doing. As expected the brakes were harder to apply but not by much so I am planning on fitting a smaller bore master cylinder to get the line pressure up, and hopefully not need a servo.

Yea, the brakes are front to rear splits - a bias valve may be the only option. Somebody also suggested to me earlier that it could also be a stuck wheel cylinder ( It seemed to make sense when he explained it to me!!) The master cylinder I'm using is of an '85 mayfair ( what ever that may be?) I'm using a standard mini pedal box and modified brake pedal to clear the steering column and modified clutch pedal to use a cable. Check out Geehawks site for pedal mods.

Cheers for the info Gordy ! Hope you get the locking up sorted !
By the way, if anyone wants to compare standard vs vented setups for the rover 100, I've just added some detailed pics to my build diary !
