Hi

Could any of you guy's help me. Im doing a swift engine mini i have the engine but no loom or ecu. I would like to use bike carbs would this be better than trying to find a loom, ecu and using injection.
Also which bike carbs would suit best and which dizy should i use.

Thanks paul

I have 40 mm mikuni flatslides on a fairly long inlet + individual filters
i had to make a turbo style bulkheadbox and ditch the heater.
(my carbs stick right through the crossmember)
I must say that im using a fairly long inlet and you could probably get away
with a shorter one.…

Electromotive xdi take care of the ignition, cranktrigger 52 teeth wheel
and very accurate and easy to create a perfect curve.
Iīm also installing a Halmeter to monitor fuel/air mixture

If you like i can take som pictures of my setup/stuff, but i canīt say if its a good one because i havenīt actually driven my car yet!

Take care
Marcus

I'm thinking of the swift swap and and would like to run carbs (Yamaha R1's) any pics of the bulkhead mod would be well received.

I will take som pictures and PM Matt and ask if he could make me a member, then i can create a gallery of my own.

So... why all of the interest to use an outdated method of fueling when proper, tunable, modern EFI systems are easily available?

Hi,

Because it is cheapest!
If you need ECU and wiring loom, I have one spare.
It is from mk1 so, you will be ok to run with out most of O2 sensor and so on.
You will need mk1 Dizzy or modify Mini one to run in G13B like Swiftmini has done.

If you see my Build diary, you will see my mod.
Also, if you need cut up inlet manifold for you to make carb manifold, let me know.
I got one spare which I already cut up ready to modify.
I also have spare G13B engine and gearboxes from mk1....
Spare pair of drive shaft I made for mk2 setup.
I also drive mk1 Swift gti as round about.

You name it I think I got most of them...lol

If you want more info of carb setup and so on, I will work on my car this weekend.
So, I can take some picture for you to look at.

Thanks ill let you know about the loom, Its well worth thinking about as i have the injection unit ,what clearance problems would i have with this unit?
The engine i have is out of a J reg gti would the drive shafts you have fit?

Thanks paul

Hi Paul,

Clearance will be bit difficult for me to answer, since I'm using carbs and not even tried with std setup.
My driveshaft I made is from J reg car.
It will fit no problem.

I don't know what is best option for you to be honest with you.
There are so many good conversion in this forum with G13b egnine with mk1 and mk2 setup.
I still even thinks that I should done that way and so on.
Some of them have engine and gearbox too low for my liking but...

Well, you might be able to buy ready made subframe soon from Matt.

Thanks atchi.

Sounds good how much do you want for the driveshafts and the loom?
Im going to make the subframe myself i have a tig welder at work to make a neet job of it.

Hi Paul,

Price and all that wise, I will pm you later.
Have you got ECU for your car?
What colour injector do you have?
Mk2 has bigger capacity injector and it won't work with mk1 ECU.
It will flood your engine.
How are you going to run your car's wiring?
Will you be using Mini plus Suzuki or the other way around?

It will be difficult one to decide to be honest with you.

Let me know what you are doing.

Jimbo,

If you are reading this.
Can you take pic from front of your engine close to the alternator mount please?

Can anyone recommend a carb set for a Swift conversion? Was thinking Yammy R1 or R6? What do you do for an intake manifold?

So is that a home built manifold?
Which TBs are you utilising?

Also, with a standard 4.1 diff, I'm looking at 5.3k for 70 mph on 10s!!
Any ideas or recommendations for a smaller diff? Another models box maybe?

Hi nightflier,

I got mine done professionally.
It is more work than I can handle gone into it.
It is port and polished.
It has one off inlet manifolds, well 4 of them machine from solid aluminium.

I am using R1 carbs and they are equally spaced out compares to std.

Diff with, you can get 3.52 diff from Swift family which I have got in my gearbox.
I think it will reduced to 3.8k rpm @70mph.

If you need more info, let me know as I have Facotry manual for mk1 Gti and so on.

Cheers

P.S. I will be moving to Durham in next 2 weeks.

I have decided to get rid of the bike carbs and distributor. i'm fitting the stock manifold back on and gonna run a trigger wheel and sensor for my timing. I will be using a megasquirt ecu. It probably sounds silly but i think that injection will be easier to get up and running and i can map it with my laptop untill our rolling road is ready to use.
I will hopefully have the megasquirt very soon. although i need to find out the resistance for the coolant sensors.

Will put more about my new intended setup in my build diary.
