Nothing against the venerable A-Series. Fine design for 1951. I have a 1976 Aussie Mini with a Clubby front. 1310, 45 dcoe, big cam, etc. Getting tired of fixing and waiting for parts. My daily driver is a '06 Scion xA with the 1.5L 16V, 106 bhp, all alloy 1NZFE. 221,000 miles, and all I've changed is the water pump. I was doing some rough measurements yesterday, and it looks like it would fit. The gearbox in the Scion would be geared too low, but I believe the same lump in the Echo (one of the ugliest cars ever) had taller gearing. The guys on the Scion forum claim they get decent power from the engine. It LOOKS like it would be a nice fit....and they are cheap and plentiful. Anyone looked at this? Any ideas?

I have a 2009 Yaris 2dr Hatch 5spd. I love it :P
I believe it will fit wit no problems. It looks smaller than my d16z6. Or atleast to me it does :P.
As for getting alot of HP... I don't see why you couldnt :P
I wanna see ya do this swap! I love my minis and my yaris

My original thought was the D-series. I was looking at D15B (suitable gear ratios and LSD). But, looking at a D-series build, and then looking at the lump in my Scion xA (aka 4 door Yaris), I believe that the 1NZFE would be an easier fit. I'd lean towards a engine and 5 speed out of an Echo, which should have taller final drive, and probably simpler electronics. Since you have both a Mini and a D-series, and a 1NZFE, take a look at the 3, and tell me what you think.

I will look at all three in the next couple of days and will let ya know.
It will fit since everything is so snug, but you will have to come up with a custom header in my opinion. I would make one that is very similar in design to the classic minis. Have it hug the block.

Oya.. Also..
My yaris weights 2400lbs. When i run the crap out of it she gets 31 mpg with 60-70% city and the rest highway (doin 70mph). Taking my time and suck i get close to 40.
Knock off 1100lbs and your MPG should be God like. haha

The Scion is a little heavier, and geared deeper ( I think). I cannot get less than 30 mpg, even in traffic with the AC blasting. Best is 34.5 mpg. What is your rpm at 70 mph? I think you have taller gearing.

I am not sure what my RPM is since the basta/r/ds didnt give me a tach.. ridiculous really..
I looked at my engine bays tonight. everything seems plausible. I didn't take measurements but i definitely think its possible to put a yaris engine into a mini.

The Echo has a final drive of 3.52,and 5th is .82, so the effective final drive is 2.89 which is ideal for a Mini. Not sure what the Yaris has, but the Scion is much deeper. The total package is about 34 inches end to end, and 16 inches wide at the head. 20 inches from front of intake to outside of header. They list the weight of the engine at 187 lbs. Not sure if that includes accesories. Whole package should be lighter than D series. The Scion guys say you can get about 150 whp out of the stock bottom end. After that, it comes apart. With better internals, one guy claims 287 at the wheels. I think 130 at the wheels would be fine in a Mini.

i keep the toyota gear box and the shifter, but i modify my mini sub frame to put the new engine in the car. I took a cooper tank and modify it for the toyota gas pump. Look the picture is my mini in 2009.
I run my mini since 2 years and i don't have problem with the engine. I can go on the highway with my 5 speed transmission.

I know the Echo's and at least someof the Yaris's have a taller final drive than the one in my Scion. Which does your car have? How did yu modify your subframe?

The Scion guys say with either a belt driven blower or a small low boost turbo, you can get 150 hp at the wheels before the motor comes apart. With internal mods, one guy is getting 286 hp at the wheels. I was thinking that 130-150 at the wheels, with much better low end torque and less weight than the B-series would be a pretty good engine swap.
