When the SAE site says you can keep most of the mini suspension and hub arrangement just how much does it mean!

Are MG metro four pots up to the job of stoppinga vtec

any experiances to share pls?

Also how does the watsons setup compare? it says metro gti brakes are these the same as the earlier four pots?
:?: :?: :?:

When i went out in John dexters mini i was impressed with the brakes and i have no worries about using the metro 4 pot set up (mainly because i alreadyu have them!!!) But once the car is on the road and i'm not happy with them then i would look into upgrading them. I won't be using a servo either. Also some one at my local car club is putting a B16A2 engine into a (let me get this right) GTM mini based kit car. I spoke to him about what brake set up he was going to use and on the front he is going to use metro 4 pots. But with rear discs.

Correct me people if I'm wrong. Brakes as far as I know, have nothing to do with BHP. If you will be putting out 165BHP with 10" wheels and will not go beyong the Mini's original 90 MPH, even servoed drum brakes would be up to the job (at least as much as the originals where).

With 4 pot brakes, the situation should be much better, especially considering that with a VTEC, the car won't be much heavier than a standard Mini.

So it all depends on how fast you are planning to go really.

Just my 2c worth.

In theory you are right. But the brakes on a higher bhp car are likely to be stopping that car from higher speeds more often than the slower car and as such will be worked harder.

The drum brakes on your average 1000cc mini probably will not have to slow the car from 90 very often. Swap the engine with something that will get you to 90 much more quickly, and hence mean braking from high speeds more often, and you will find that those drum brakes quickly fail because they were not designed to continuously perform under those conditions.

You're right there. But then, that's why there are better pads around (assuming you're using discs) ;) Tho, since I haven't tried it yet (should get the engine this week), can't really tell until I try it.

I would change to front discs anyway unless I would want the car original, in which case I wouldn't be installing a VTEC in the first place
