How much does an "average" sprint race/day/session (whatever you want to call it) cost? Assuming there is no accidents or damage. Roughly?

Cheers,

O.

As Allan says but that is about the most expensive entry

costs incured can include

1) Entry fee from £100-150
2) Race licence approx £38 a year
3) Competition log book approx £38, one off
4) Motor club membership £10-£30
5) Championship registration fees etc if applicable £???
6) Fuel, tyres etc for race car
7) Camping fees etc

There are some events that work out cheaper, better value. The 1st event at olivers mount used to be 3 days but is now 2 for about £150 entry fee with free camping. Also the 16v events can include a days trackday on the Sat and a sprint on the Sunday for £100. For the 16v events you also do not need race licences etc.

Dont forget that you also need to buy race overalls, helmet and gloves.

You need a race licence for all events exept Barkston Heath.

I know you want to know cost 'assuming no accidents or damage' but I'd suggest that in one way or another you'll spend £1000+ per year on your Mini. Whether it's caused by wear & tear, improvements or damage you'd need to drive very steadily to avoid having to spend lumps of money on your car.

I tend to budget £2k+ for a season of entertainment.

I think I can just about stretch to that (will be a good excuse to stop going out too = more money for mini). Just need to find some fellow chumps down this way that are planning on racing.

Well i have tried before to open up the 16v championship to those in the south so it would be possible again, would also apply to those in the north.

Currently in the 16v championship there are a set of race dates agreed at the beginning of the year which are loosly followed, usually made up by the auto66 championship rounds and few of our own at Barkston. You win 1 championship point for each 16v member that you beat and you final score is made up of your best 6 totals. My idea was if anyone in the north/south wanted to take part in a local event and run it as a championship round all they would have to do is.

1) Post a notice of the intended event on the forum giving the entry details as soon as possible, preferably a month in advance. This would allow other folk in the area to attend and form some kind of competition with the chance of winning greater points.
2) post the results back onto the forum on the same thread after the event so that they can be included in the results.

A simple change to the old method of 'adopting' certain races would be to allow any properly timed & organised event where 2 or more registered 16VMiniClub Members would like to race.

The 16V Championships scoring system is already beatifully simple to say that only your best 6 scores will count & you can only score if you are racing another 16valver.

This way two or more drivers could turn out to any event that takes their fancy, but I do agree that they'd need to post their intent on the forum well in advance so that others could be given the chance to attend. (therefore no sneaky racing without inviting your friends;))

You are the unluckiest man when it come to punctures. Didn't you get 3 driving to and from one event?

I try not to think about it:D

Paul

I did say I 'budget' £2k ......... It's just soooooo tempting to tinker with the car and it always costs a bloody fortune. I reckon I could spend less than than £2k if I'm starved of beer & kept off e-bay.

Raced my ek9 in 2009, drove to an event that was 6 hrs away, 1st practice vervier pulley broke which snapped the exhaust cam in 4 bits, bent all 16 valves and broke a valve spring. Went home removed the head and sent it away to get fixed got it back on the thurs avo back together that night then away the friday to a dyno session 4 hrs from home. On the dyno it sheared the woodrift key bent another 10 valves and broke 2 collets so home head off and sent away again all in the middle busiest part of the season. So travel + entry fee + all the head work + travel again + dyno = over 2k that was in a week. Since then ive given up on trying to budget but on the plus side bloody fast at taking the head off now :)

That reminds me of one year spectating on the RAC, it was the year that the trabant entered. I was watching the start at the 1st stage Lightwater valley when one car set off and snapped the cam belt 40yards into the 1st stage, Rally Over.

Owen, join burnham on sea motor club! You can enter wiscombe hill climb which is one of the destinations on allans travells near honiton in exeter. You could enter about 7-8 hillclimbs a year down there and then you could be against my girlfriend, possibly me and someone in a mk1 golf for championship points and if you win - you get a gert trophy!! ALSO......... if you marshall events in their calender then you recieve extra points on your stats ha ha.

Thanks
Kris

No, the trabant actually went on and finished the event. It's the Only time i've seen a special award be given on a rally for a finishing team.

Got my facts wrong it was not the year the trabant entered, that was 1992. It was 1988 that started at lightwater valley, still unsure on the driver though as there were 3 cars retired on SS1 with engine failure.

Just as example, approximately how much track time do you get for £100-150 per event. The only reason i ask is that i went to watch the hilclimbing at Gurston Down and most cars appeared to do a couple of practice runs in the morning and then 2 or 3 runs in the afternoon. Some of the quick guys were completing the course in less than 30 secs and it struck me that they didn't get a lot of actual seat time for the money.

Thats how a hillclimb works about 5 runs total a few more at some club events.
If you have never done it you wouldnt understand ;)
Most people who do it get hooked its not all about the lenghth of time at the wheel.

Absolutely agree Mr McD.

Sprint/Hillclimbs are great cos you do one super fast chaos run, followed by half an hour of messing with your car & chatting to your pals about all sorts of crap.

It's all about getting faster, but without the extra 20 laps of nonsense.

If you want track time, then go on a track day............ BORING zzzzzzzzz

Or of course if you do the Barkston Sprints you get 5 timed runs in the morning and 5 in the afternoon and usually an hours open track at the end. Also we tend to run the trackdays on Saturday and Rafmsa events on the Sunday, you can apply to join the Rafmsa as an associate member and race for £50 per event.
It is fun

I know all of the above does not affect you in the campervan, but they are needed for us tenters!
