View Full Version : RS2000 Elf
Hi, I'm fairly new here and just wanted to say hello and get a feel for my plans from you guys. My current plan is to try (assuming it fits the hole) fit a 16 valve RS2000 motor in the front of my '68 Riley Elf. I would like to keep the hydrolastic suspension if possible, have it as front wheel drive and don't want to modify the bulkhead drastically.
What do you think? Have I been sniffing too much petrol and its puddled my brain?

im going 1.816v small block vauxhall in my 69 elf, but ive also turned it into a pick up.
Cables: My mate has a rs2000 engine at his workshop so I'll measure it up this weekend.
Thrash: got any pics?

From what i've seen the RS2000 lump is huge, fine if you are going RWD with major bulkhead mods but not sure if it'll fit in a FWD

not that difficult to do mate, pm me if you want me to go through it ;-)
OK, I've had a measure up today and here goes.
Elf's engine bay is 36" between the inner wings (most of which have been removed)
Bulkhead crossmember to front of the standard subframe is 16"
Standard A series is 24" tall
RS2000 engine and box is
Height 25"
Length 36"
width 23"
The measurements were taken without the inlet manifold on as it's been removed. When I found it and held it in place it would make the engine 1 maybe 2" taller but a fair bit wider so a custom inlet manifold would be needed.
I think I'll drop the a series out and crane the RS motor into the gap and see where we are then.
Well for those thinking about it or interested it don't fit. Not by much, about an inch, but an inch might as well be a mile.
So sod it it's going in the back. I can't use the back seats anyway as I have harnesses so might as well use the space for something useful :-)
Scratch that. The gear change would be backwards (second for first etc) and I'm not risking my reg no (and free tax) on an iva. :(
