howdy people from australia, im new to this forum and am obviously really interested in putting a vtec in my 1970 morris mini K (aussie special edition round nose)
a few questions i want to ask you people are...
1: could anyone try to describe the feeling you get when you drive your vtec mini?
2:are you limited to just using a 1.6 or can you go the 2.0?
3:anyway of fitting it in without lengthing the front end?
4:anyone else in melbourne that has done it?
5:whats the smallest job you could pull it off with eg. using existing 12inch wheels, not doing a big suspension change etc..

any answers will help
thankyou

cheers for the reply darren,
building a frame wont be a problem, i work for an industrial design company and we can fabricate anything...it doesnt cost me to use our tools, paint, materials and so forth. it seems like people have real problems with fitting vtecs in roundnoses...is it the lack of three inches?

I'd say the bare minimun would be uprated dampers, neg camber bottom arms, uprated adjustable tie rods, uprated rubber bushes (not the polyurethane rubbish) and Metro Turbo brakes. Dont forget a decent set of tyres for what ever wheel size you use.

Anything less I'd consider suicide !! :)

Also, You cannot "Buy" a 2.0 V Tec, there was never a b series 2.0 V Tec made, you need to build it yourself using a B20b bottom end and any V Tec unit you choose(b series- DOHC) There is not a graet deal in size difference(mm) and the B20b unit will not fit under with all stock parts, unless you "Mad Max" the bonnet, far too Gettoe  Scott G :)

There's a 2.0 vtec in the latest Honda's - the K series engines come in 2.0 and 2.4 in either VTEC or i-VTEC - wont get one very cheap though as they're only made from year 2000 on !! I read an article whilst in the US last year saying the engine's were at that time going for around $6500 complete !!! Apparently the heads and blocks of the 2.0 and 2.4 are pretty much interchangeable.

In putting a VTEC in a RHD roundnose without lengthing the front end, it's not a matter of three inches, it's a matter of an inch . The Honda differential needs to occupy some of the same space as the pinion portion of the RHD steering rack. It's about an inch larger than the corresponding position on a LHD rack (sticks forward farther), and that's enough to make it difficult to fit. If you just move the engine forward to clear, you push the exhaust manifold into the grill, the valve cover into the front of the bonnet, and mis-align the centerline of the axles. Thats why most kits require lengthening the nose and repositioning the wheel centerline. It takes some work to solve the problem, but can be done.

Hi 1970 - i'm from melb

check out the link below

Morris mini 850 (Aussie Mk1) with b16a

This car won the victorian (state) hillclimb championship a lil while ago - and is (as far as I know) - careful statement coming up....

The only driving, going, proven

-NON Extended
-B series
-VTEC

mini in the world...

(other cars have some of those qualifications - but i haven't seen that combination yet - not in a goer...) and this car was built a few years ago.

(stand to be corrected - but I've been talking about vtec minis before I remember anything on the web - and I haven't seen one yet to date)

soon to not be the case.. (andy - brian??)
