View Full Version : civic type r in a mini, lamda sensor? gearbox ratios?

Hello people,
new kid on the block! I have my motor and the car ,and like alot of us i'm waiting for the amt frame. I am being told i need the lamda sensor thats in the exhaust, is this correct or will the motor run without it, i have the ecu. If it is needed where would you recomend fitting it.
Also does the fact that a civic has 17" wheels and mine will probably have 13 or 14s mean the car will be undergeared to the extent that it would be silly on the motorway. if so is there an answer?
Cheers

Discussion on final drive ratios to correct for the fact that you will be running smaller wheels/tyres

If you are planning on using the Honda ECU you will need all of the Honda sensors, don't you have the original exhaust ? Honda will have fitted the co2 sensor in the correct place why move it ?

I plan to use all the sensors , but must sdmit i dont know how many that will be, as i have not got the motor in my posession yet and compared to an a series its a complicated bit of kit. I think it would be usefull to be a computer tech than have any mechanical knowledge.
The thing with the exhaust is i would have to buy the whole system from the bloke i am getting the engine from, and i thought i would just get a new one from honda. i was checking to see if i had to use the original one as they might have been coded. I have since found out that its not the case.

Don't forget that Honda parts cost a fortune, it may be cheaper for you to buy the second hand complete exhaust system rather than a brand new Honda exhaust manifold.

Good point. Is the sensor in the manifold? because that comes with the engine. Or is it, or another one in the midpipe or end box. How many sensors are we talking about!

My B16A1 has 2 in the manifold, one of the type R boys should know if there are any other sensors in the exhaust, I doubt if there are.

Hi,

I have a B18C6 Integra Type R engine in my Mini, The sensor you are talking about fits at the base of the manifold as below.
http://www.supersprint.com/prodotti/923901.jpg

On the Supersprint manifold I am using www.supersprint.com there are two places for sensors, it needs to be fitted on top, just in front of the rear flange.

Using this manifold makes a 8hp difference in output over the stock manifold, check their web site charts for details - and its in Stainless Steel, which also looks a lot better than the stock one. -Expensive, but very good quality over the DC manifolds from the States.

If you're on a budget, then try and get the stock manifold, you wont need the rest of the system, as it wont fit under the car, So you'll still need to make up a hybrid Mini S/S system.

Hope that helps

If using the honda ECU, u will need the lambda sensor, or she wont run right at all. Are the wiering diagrams not up yet to show everyone exactly what to rip out and what to keep? :)

I've given up on the civic type r motor, too much hassle. Going for the integra option instead, although vauxhall engines are so cheap! ,astra ecotec turbo for £500 on ebay!

I can't see why the CTR engine is any more hassel than a Integra, all B series engines are the same, and 90% of parts are interchangeable :? Look at my B series, Its a 2.0ltr non V Tec with a B16a V tec head transplanted on it, B16a box, waterpump etc etc etc

And what astra came with a turbo? The vaux stuff is really cheap however :D

B20GT,

Does this 'interchangability' of Honda parts between 'B' types, have any resembalance to the 'D' engines fitted into Rover GTI's?

Could a Vtec head from a B16 be mated to any of the Rover stable (D,K)?

Thanks...I'm doing my best to get up to speed on the conversions, but this bb has sooooo much to search

I was planning on using the ECU from the donar vehicle: to keep on subject;
If like you, I were to use a large cap bottom end topped off with a Vhead, would I need to consider any adaption for additional sensors?
Should I opt for a after-market ECU for ease of setup and future expansion -
not to mention the pose-a-bility of using my PDA to load the " WarpForce  " template at the lights!

Usually the B and D series don't mate. As I don't follow all the Honda stuff out there I do retain some residual information. Search the net for a swap called a mini-me. This is a good thread to read about it. JS

A “mini-me” is an informal name for a D-Series SOHC VTEC head mated to a D-Series SOHC non-VTEC block. Most mini-me swaps consist of D16Y8 or D16Z6 heads onto USDM D15B, D16A6, or D16Y7 blocks. JDM D15b VTEC heads will work as well
