View Full Version : Would it suit?

Hey guys,

I'm new around this here parts so be gentle with me. I'm an aussie boy, from Queensland, am rebuilding a 1976 Leyland Clubman S and am putting a turbo Gti motor in it...well a gti motor that will be turboed hmmm turbo mini..gives you wood doesn't it.

Anyway, I am able to get my hands on a free, perfect condition CT20 Turbo off a GT4 Celica....I just want to know would this go alright on the gti engine? or where I could find out if it would suit or not.

Cheers
Todd

hey mate where abouts in qld you from im in Brisbane and just starting my project as well have engine and car etc
suzuki gti NA though with some goodies

I think when
choosing a turbo look at the capacity engine which it came off of i mean as long as the turbo is rated for X amount of power and came off an engine of similar capacity or bigger no probs if ya can make it all fit 8)

check out on this site a guy from Brisbane just finished one and he is helpfull so maybe give him a pm about it and get on www.ausmini.com
if not allready

i think you really need to think if its worth the effort though as it IS NOT as easy as just bolting it on

cheers

Am already a member of ausmini, have been for a while. Asked the same question on there.

The GT4 Celicas are 2L and the Gtis are only 1.3L so not sure how it would go. It is a bit more effort, but I want a turbo mini...uncle owns an autopro shop so get all parts cost price which comes in handy. So shouldn't be that big of a drama.

I live on the sunny coast.

oh yeah thats a big help lol

always good to haave contacts i think it should be ok ask your uncle im sure he will know but i think it should be fine i mean you could go after market but yeah this will be cheaper

check out www.redlinegti.com also lots of good info in the forums about turbo kits etc for swifts

Cheers will have a look but it would seem that its all going to be fine and dandy.

The turbo is also off my uncle. He put all the running gear from a gt4 celica into his rav4....breaks, diffs, engine...everything...doesn't need half the standard stuff as its all been upgraded...will be running 500HP at the treads...will be a trench digger on the beach.

I plan to take all the standard stuff, turbo, intercooler, dump pipe...everything :)

have a look on http://www.teamswift.net forum for turbo swift engined idea's, they seem to reckon the gt17 from a SAAB or a IHI turbo from a 20 valve VW/Audi engine are good turbos

Cheers Cables....have been told from there the IHI VF38 is a good turbo, but also been told it is expensive and rather large which isn't what I am after. Want something that won't break the bank, is nice and compact but can still dish out a far bit of power. The hunt continues.

im looking into getting a K03S turbo of an 180bhp VAG engine when i eventually start my conversion, looks to be a compact unit and capable of 200bhp in VAG engine setup, plus seems to spool up well, mind you i need a swift engine first!

The VF38 turbo is supposed to be a really good choice, i have heard that it makes boost on idle.

Iam going to use a TD04 off of an impreza, its a very popular turbo and very cheap. I have been informed that this turbo will have no noticable lag or drivability problems.
