Hi all,
I couldn't find a dedicated hello section so thought this is probably the next best place.

Im just starting out on a mini project, which is going to be a front bike engined rear wheel drive nutter mobile.:D

Its not really designed to be a track racer just something fun to drive at the weekend and take to shows etc.

Its been a long time since ive owned a mini (getting on for 10 years), so my working knowledge of the car itself is pretty rusty but im not going to let that stop me.

The general outline for the project is longitudinal mounting of an R1 engine in a custom front subframe, enlarging of the tunnel to fit a prop and the fabrications of custom semi trailing arms to go with the freelander diff I bought last weekend.

I chose the R1 engine for its height, the fact its a 998 lol, and that it doesnt need dry sumping like the hyabusas for example.

Semi trailing arm rear suspension was chosen for its simple design, and slight improvement over plain trailing arms (negative camber gain in bump and a bit of toe in too.

The freelander diff as its light, readily available, has a good ratio (3.21) and off the shelf lsd's can be fitted.

All in all it should be a good fun, I probably wont get started until march time when the race season starts and my workload drops a little. Even then i envisage this taking a while, as im going to fabricate as much of it as i can.

If anyone has any objections to my ideas though speak now or forever hold your peace lol.

Matt
