I have just got a new loom from a 97 civic 1.6 SOHC engine (ECU, Immobiliser and key etc) I was thinking that the wireing would be exectly the same as the DOHC engine but when I got it home and paid for it I opened up the ECU to compaire it to my ECU that I got wiith the engine - they are diffrenet and the code on the side is different. The new one is P2E but the old one is P2T (they are bothe OBD2 ECU's) - more in fo on this is here : -

http://www.hondata.com/vehicles.html

The same site talks about swapping ECU's - doesnt seem to indicate any problems with this? So surely I just use my original ECU?

What can I do - have I fu***d up and got teh wrong stuff - everything else looks fine - just the ECU's.

Oh yeh, fucked up.

SOHC Thats a small point that you didnt mention on the phone yesterday...DOH..

Im pretty sure they arnt compatable with the DOHC. Not even sure if the main wiring is the same or if the DOHC has more wires. If the wiring is the same we can still use the relay, key and imobiliser but will have to use your ecu and get honda to recode it all to match.

Hope I'm wrong and somebody else can put me right. :(

Yeh - didnt mention is - lol

Just thought it would be fine as I thought as long as it was the same ecu - it wouldnt matter!! I hope the wireing is all the same - I mean it all plugs in and it still has teh main relay & immobiliser. There must be a simple way round it - it would be like someone putting a DOHC engine in there SOHC car and then swapping the ECU's - there must be a way to do it without too much trouble. If not - BUGGER!

Posted the question here as well :-

ask on www.hondacrx.co.uk/forum but I'm sure you are fk'd :( and OBD 1 is the ECU you are after, it is the most programmeable, OBD 0 being second, and OBD 2's are virtually impossible due to the makeup :(

Just found this - thought it might help people its wireing for a 97 civic OBD2A PT2 ECU

Basiclly if I had a 1997 CIVIC with a PT2 ecu and for whatever reason it got fu**ed (i.e I kicked it!) then I got another PT2 ECU (to replace the old one) - what would I have to do to get the new one to work with the rest of my car? That is the poblem I have really.
Would it just plug in and work?

OK - after speaking to the people on Hondaswap.com and teh CRX site - they have both givenme the same conclusions. If I use the P2T OBD2 ECU I need everything to be from the same car - immobiliser, key and ecu. Apparently some can be bypassed so the Immobiliser isnt needed - but cant find much info on this. They both said that the best idea is to get a conversion harness and just slot a P30 OBD1 ECU in there. This ECU doesnt need an immobiliser and is much more tuneable - so it looks like my best option really.

Just thought I would let you guys know. :)

Hope you manage to get hold of the conversion harness - I bet a lot of people will come accross the same problem in future ! Sure its something we'll all bear in mind - thanks for the info Paul !

WhoooooHooooooo............

It finally starts. Using the SOHC wiring loom and ECU I have manged to get the engine to run .... what a feeling to finally here the thing you have been working on for so long actually work! However - it isnt all great. The engine sounds like it is revving up and down all the while. I am presuming this is because of the SOHC ECU and hopefully it will stop when I get the P30 harness and plug the other ECU in? Does anyone agree?!! Well I hope it will. Apart from that its great - the engine is really steady.

I'm happy :D :D :D :D
