I am trying to get my cam cover chromed, but I have been told that I can not, as it is alloy.

Any ideas on getting the chrome finish or very similar.

cheers

Not sure about chromeing but you may be able to get it anodized(not sure that spelt right) in the couler you want.

:D i managed to get my cover done locally but you have to take the steel pressing of the back before you can do it as the chrome will stick to the steel and not the alloy cover .i did this using a drill and a chisel .havent put it back yet but a couple of self tappers should do it .i can find out the companys name if you want

hi my nextdoor neighbour done it for me he`s a bit of a wizard at chroming things it can be done but as i said earlier you have to take the steel plate from back off it .i`l get back to you with the name of the company as i`ll have to ask him .be warned it wont be cheap

Just a thought before you go ahead with the chroming......

Many years ago ( yes I am the oldest b*****d on this forum) I was into fast motorbikes... lots of bits chromed...but never the cam covers
The reason being...it acts like a thermos flask eg highly polished outer ,with a mirror ( the chroming) to reflect the heat back in....just what you don't want on a high performance limited space installation.

I either want to paint mine the same colour as the car - any thoughts to this - will the 2 pack paint work on the cam cover? Or will it not stand up 2 the heat? Seen it done before but can U use normall paint?

I would have thought you need to use high temp paint.

Will anodising have a similar problem, in terms of heating? ( I would rather have chrome, as I have gone for a black mini, that was convert by Geoff at Watsons just before colins car was started)

I have seen a lotus twin cam in a mini clubman estate with chromed top.

Has anyone had either done and with any problems after?

Many thanks

Darren:)

Something to consider, alloy is porous so chroming it, might make the alloys deteriorate, from the inside

you can seal the alloy with some stuff called ali-seal which seals the porous alloy and then you chrome it

You can chrome plate alloy, but first it needs to be coated in I think two other layers of something, not to sure what they are. A phonecall to a chroming specialist would tell you this. dominik

My mate was looking at the chrome superlites from MWS, for the westfield he's building, but they came with the wrong pcd, so he started looking at other wheels but still wanted to have them chrome plated. I think he spoke to someone who would plate them for him using the correct process, but said that it would not be cheap, thats probably why MWS' wheels are only gauranteed for 3 months and are quite cheap.
