Have anyone done this?
I sort of overenginered (to say the least) my first frame and have to start from scratch with a new one...... , the only frame i have left is mk 1 type (hydro).

Hi,
Not sure you can do it or not.
But, if you go to my gallery, you will see I, myself have over engineered.
I even made mounts from steel plate.
I think you will have more problem from lower mounts.
Top one you can drill 2 holes/side but....
Good Luck.

Hi Atchi!
Thanks for quick reply, my taughts were also to drill out the crossmember and "push" the legs against the shell and drill straight thru the floor + extra bracing plates.
Maybe the panneling is different mk1/mk3?
Or maybe cut out top section of mk3 towers and weld them on the mk1 frame and retain the big bolts?

Hi,
I'm guessing your Mk3 subframe is actually a Mk4, otherwise it would be a direct swap with your Mk1.
I'm having to consider doing what you want to do, except in reverse - Mk4 frame into Mk1 shell.
I wouldn't try replacing the top of tower complete, probably better to remove your captivated nut section and weld it in or maybe get a correct threaded nut, turn the top down to sit in the Hydro hose hole and weld in.
If you were to do this first and offer it up to the shell you might find that the rear of the Mk1 subrame will sit against the toeboard/floor as it should do in a Mk1 and just need drilling new holes through. I don't think you'll have a problem with the front bolts, use the teardrop mounts you already have or use spacers and bolt up solid.
Or find another Mk4 frame!!
Good luck.

Job done!
Dead easy, i just cut out the "nut sections" from the mk 3? frame and welded them in the hydro holes. (Hydro holes 40mm) (nut section 35mm)
