Hi guys been a while since ive been on here as the mini had to take a back seat whilst i bought a house and completely gutted the interior floorboards an all.

Ive pretty much got all the parts for converting my 1310 to a BMW K1000 conversion but came onto a huge stumbling block. My block is a MG block and such hasn't got the breathers on the back of the block to successfully complete the conversion.

I was told last week and then read about it today about the fact you can convert the gearbox to take the ford 1600 cross flow engine. old skool i know but ive seen pictures and they look great. Ive nearly finished the weldingthe clubby shell up and im looking which way to turn to get the best from my mini. The bmw would be easier but i dont do easy. i like different and would like help from you guys as to pricing up both so i can way them both up for my final decision.

Can you guys point my in any good directions for the x-flow? or is it best to stick to bmw? I just dont want to run too much electronics on the engine apart from my mega jolt unit.

Thanks guys sorry its so long

have a wee look over on turbominis, tonnes of k 16v bmw head builds going on there, with alot of novel solutios to the various problems encountered :)

yeah there`s no problem not having the tappet chest covers, oil drains can be fed into the mech fuel pump hole & also add an engine breather there too, add another engine breather at the primary case & another couple can be set up on the cam cover & front cyl head plate, all easy-peasy

i used to run a x flow on mini box, it is a lot of work considering there are easier ways of acheiving the same or more power on a more reliable gearbox using more reliable engines.
I do recall having lots of oil pump probs with the x flow, which was a 1300 with 130 bhp.
And needless to say the gearbox loved lots of rebuilds.
But if your after interesting then it is that !

Thats what i needed to know. I didnt have the engine build manual today so didnt know about the position of the oil return. I was going on info passed to me from a friend who's trying to build the same engine, but also with a supercharger. Needless to say he's having alot of problems just now. But he'll get over them as he works for british aerospace.

He tried to build a mini pickup with an evo 6 engine in it. Again he had loads of problems with that too. He gave up on the idea after not being able to get the 4 wheel drive sytem to work. He is a little nuts, builds lots of silly cars like vw camper vans with escort cosworth engines in the back etc.

I can see if i can get photo's of the evo conversion if he has any i can steel and scan in

I`ve fitted a super tall overdriven 4th gear (.75:1) so with the 31.5inch rear tyres & the tall final drive ratio & add the over drive & the alloy V8 ,,,well, it makes for a very nice top end speed down the hi-way :-) spin 3rd gear to about 140kmsph & then slip it into top & hang on :-)
Dam good fun on the beach too :-)
