Wondered if anyone out there has fitted the D16A9 twin cam in a std nose Mini using a converted Mini subframe.

Yes, there are probably several. I am putting a D16A1 into my van which is the USDM version of the Euro D16A9. My site is at the bottom.
Here are two DOHC sites for you to peruse.
http://www.markoos.net/
http://www.ringmini.de/

This one should have most of the sites available.

Thanks for the reply and suggested sites to view, noticed an earlier post of yours about concerns over driveshaft alignment and the conflicting answers you got over it. My Mini is RH drive and the rack is giving me problems, even with rotating the rack to allow the engine back a bit further the best i can do is 25mm forward of ideal, should i go with it? what did you end up with?. Anybody got a simple (!) way of moving the rack back.

Also, i'd prefer to leave bulkhead intact, requiring the injection manifold to be modified, i've got a couple of ideas myself but any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Without knowing what kind of frame you are using it would be difficult for anyone to give an accurate response to your rack question. There is a problem in some frames with the RHD causing a bit of grief.

I am guessing you are using a Mini rack. I am not as I am using a complete drive train from the Integra with some modification using the CRX rack and crossmember.

My concerns with drive shafts was alignment forwards/backwards and by how much. I don't know how much of a fudge factor that there can be. Of course up/down does come into play but less room to go that way. IIRC the comments made were on the boots rubbing too much if angle offset is too great.

Obviously there should be some give as the shafts have got to be able to move up/down with the suspension in any case, therefore fore/aft travel should be equivilent. Ideal is obviously in exact location as original Mini shafts.

As to the IM I haven't got that far yet and will have to wait until engine is properly oriented in the car.

Did any of that help at all? JS

Any response is a help, you guess right , i am using a Mini rack together
with Mini front subframe/suspension to keep Mini track and wheelbase as std.
Fabrication for conversion starts at suspension towers going forward, the diff. unit pops through the back of subframe but further travel is interupted by rack/pinion joint on RH drive steering rack. I realise i'm not the first person to find this out.
Honda use equal length driveshafts on this unit and by the time they are shortened to suit std. track Mini, 25mm offset across such a short shaft distance seems a lot. I can live with premature cv boot failure but are the outer cv joints going to put up with it when steering is on full-lock?.

Thanks again for your reply.

OK, Last answer and then it's your turn. I don't know if this will work but may be an option. I have a Mini rack lying around hidden somewhere but I don't remember how big the actual joint is but you might be able to move the rack down the slope an inch or so and even cut into the firewall and move the complete rack inwards. Just a couple of suggestion as I have different problems to deal with. Try a non Mini rack from something else that may fit.

Now, it's time to join the forum so we all know where you are from, etc. I suspect GB because of RHD. This way you might get some help from your geographical area and better responses in general. I'm suprised this hasn't been move to the VTEC section even though the A9 is non-VTEC. Just better exposure there.

This is probably the best forum for this conversion so use it well. Let us know who you are! JS

JS, thanks for the nudge, as you can see i am now a member.

Thanks also to Matt for placing it in the Vtec forum - wasn't sure if the humble D16 twin cam would be welcomed!, i think it's a willing worker and should be a match for a road going 1380.
