yes i have the tinted visors. i think mine are the smoke aswell.

they are ok but dont block out all of the sun when it is really bright but cos of my cage, they have to stay down all of the time and the normal ones got in the way.

but they do look nice

Is that a cheeky wee ceramic coated manifold?

yep, its a DCsports 4-2-1. much nicer than the old cast one

Very nice looking car! It's hard to tell the fronts been extended with the larger wheels, it seems almost normal. What was the reason to not use the fuel injection?

cos its a type r engine the inlet it longer than on a normal vtec.

so it was either fit the inlet from the b16 or fit throttle boddies. i think that it would have been rude not to!

U mean Obscene, Skunk2 do a shortenes inlet for the ITR, with greater flow

Thanks, I didn't realize there was that much of a difference in the size of the intake manifolds. I like the look of the throttle bodies with the K&N filters! How did you go about sorting out the sparking and rest of the electrics driven by the ecu when using the throttle bodies?

But doesn't chipping the standard ecu add about 8BHP.
Is there any reason why you can't use a superchip in the honda ecu when its fitted in a mini? Has anyone done this?

Just thought it was a cheaper option to get 8 - 10 BHP rather than getting a DTA system or something like it.#

If the engine is the same spec as when it came out of the Honda then the Honda ECU should be perfect, I am sure there is nothing wrong with the DTA setup but don't forget the Honda ECU handles cold start, stops the VTEC working until the engine is hot and was obviously well sorted by Honda, getting it to work on a mini is another story, my research points to the vehicle speed sensor being the main problem point.

There are 4 types of ECU that are fitted to VTEC engines, some are more tunable (chippable) than others.

There is a chipped one on e-bay at the minute:

The other option with the Honda ECU to improve power is to get a VTEC controller, they fetch around £150 on e-bay.

Darren

So are you running honda injection with the dta? How much is the dta?

Thanks

Well I must admit the reason I will be trying to use the Honda ECU is purely financial, I am on a very tight budget and utilising the Honda ECU is part of my master plan.
I think the Honda ECU will work ok with a different filter/exhaust as the ECU will compensate for small changes, the exhaust sensor should detect a lean mixture due to high flow air filter/ exhaust and increase the fuelling, obviously this would not work on any more serious mods.

Mintec - Watsons quote £880 I think for the DTA setup, rolling road setup on top of that so you are looking at a little over 1k.

Darren W - what sort of figures did you get on the rollers ? which B16 engine do you have ? I am curious what output they actually produce in reality !!!

Darren was there a big difference after the rolling road ? I take it the DTA had a basic map installed before the rollers ?

What revs do you have the VTEC engaging ? most of the DTA ones seem to have it set at 5000rpm.

I am another Paul........

Where abouts did you get the DTA map improved? was it done for you at the rolling road session? my car is still on the basic map and it is frustrating especially at low revs in 3-4-5th gears.

I too will be using DTA - not bought it yet, but will be doing so when I've saved enough !!!
My reason for DTA is that I'll be using Jenvey throttle bodies - these obviosuly need a custom made inlet manifold. I'm also planning to make a few 'changes' to the engine once its all running ok - atleast with the DTA I can get it remapped as and when I want if I've changed something, I can also keep a copy of the maps on a laptop, so if I take something off again I can revert back to previous map without needing to go to a rolling road, ie, for free !!!

Hoping for about 215 / 220, I'm also waiting for a reply back from unorthodox racing in the US for a few bits and pieces  that may help it rev a little quicker ..... !!!

Rich,

What engine are you using?

Hi Paul,
Its a B18C4 (1800 DOHC Vtec), 40mm jenvey throttle bodies - ideally I'd be using 45mm ones but these were going cheap 2nd hand - about £200 for the pair of twin TB's, DTA management, alloy crank pulley, TypeR LSD - not decided on what else will go into it yet, well, not entirely anyway - just waiting for odd price lists / catalogues !!!

What gearbox have you got? I assume the 1.8vti box S9B with LSD, nice long ratios if you have. Thats the one I am after - how about selling it to me

Do you realise that 42% of the posts on this thread are yours  Man, you can talk! :P

Good question - not entirely sure what gearbox it is !!! Where's the numbers ?!
Rich

the gearbox numbers are on a small white sticker on the side of the box ,when put on an engine its not to far away from the engine number ,i think thats the only way you can tell ,dont think there are any stamps on the casing but i might be wrong, there is a lsd stamp on the side of the bell housing

darren how much different are the gearratios on the s9b box ,i only want to know as ive bought one with an lsd and was wondering weather to use this box or the y1 box i have

mikeb

whats the final drive ratios on these boxes
