Just phoned up a few insurance companys. They are asking what model civic did the engine come from. can anyone help the engine is a b16 dohc vtec. they thought it came out of a vti. The qoutes i have had so far is £1400 and £1800! I am 22 with 1 claim and 3 years no claims.

The quotes dont sound too bad considering your age and claim. I know of people paying that for a standard Charade GTti

yes it aint to bad but if the engine is not from the vti it may go down a bit the vti civic is group 15. Looks like will just have to pay it!

I got an insurace quote from one of the specialised mini insurace companys. I will have a 1.6 dohc vti engin in a mini. The best I got was 900 (fully comp) and I am 21 with 4 years no claims. That was with an agreed value of 7000 as well.

Sorry cant remember who I got that from - I just checked it out before I went ahead with the conversion - one company gave me a quote for 1200 and one 900 - both were mini companys from a mini mag.

no both limited to 5000miles. HIC said they could do me a deal and have unlimited for £2030 instead of £2500. The only difference is flux will not let me put a cage in it and HIC would. If cant get a cheaper quote will go wiv flux and weld in some strength some how.

my latest quote with HIC was around the 300 quid mark, with agreed value and track day cover

Cheap insurance on a vtec mini is easy, but you have to make sure that they will give you an agreed value if the car burns to the ground. I'm 23 with 4 years NCD and one quote was £160 quid!!, but if anything happenend to the car then they will only pay out for its market value. First thing to tell them is that its a £500 quid car with £8000+ worth of modifications and see what they say.
My best quote was £750 Fullycomp with a value of £10,000 and 12000 miles per year, with a company called Sureterm Direct, from out of the back of the Mini World.

the B16a engine only lives in the VTi civics, unles you get a JDM engine, that comes out of the SiR civics, which are the UK VTi equivalent. these give 160

The B16b come out of the JDM civic Type R, this gives 185

unless you get an early B16a, these give 150 and come out of the Civic 1.6i VT 1989-1991
