Hi ppl,
I am finaly welded gearbox mount to subframe (mk1 engine setup).
From what I can see, I have no space to fit alternators like everyone said.
I needed to move engine by 50mm back so ex manifold will be inside engine bay  .
Con said he fitted reverse in driver side wing....
How is everyone else doing?
I'm thinking of making long rod with pulley to drive alternator which mounted gearbox side....
If I do this, what can I do to tension the belt?
Any ideas?
If you can take pic of what you've done, I will be most appreciated.
Cheers

i mounted mine similar to cons i think, using a 5" HT bolt, using the existing engine mounting point between the 2 cam gears, well just below a little.. i made a template out of the old mount that was there, i think i used some 6 or 8mm steel, drilled a hole for the bolt, and welded the bolt to the bracket.. i think it was a 14 or 17mm head on the bolt, which also happens to sit snug between the 2 lugs on the side of the head..
as for tensioning the alt, i had to make up a peice of steel with a fork ground into the end recently, it was the only way without having to remove the engine, from the 14mm bolt below the air intake, just pushed onto the case of the alt,.. but i wouldnt recomend this hehe.. depending on where your engine mounts are on the front, you can run a bracket from the front of the block around to the bottom of the alt to tension it there..
there is a guy who has his alt above his gbox, this ould be ok i guess, but a fair bit of stuffing around, im not to sure if the standard exhaust manifold will give you enough space.. BUT i could be wrong..
good luck
I wouldn't bother trying to mount it at the opposite end of the engine.
There is plenty of room for it up under the guard behind the headlight and it's not too difficult to do.
I fabricated a bracket from the original top engine mount between the cam gears and this also extends down to the two spare holes in the bottom of the block to the right of the front pulley.
I have only just finished putting my engine back together tonight. If I had seen this post I would have taken some photos. I will have a look in my album, I may have taken some when I built it.

hey i had very same prob. i cut out the tower and now wish i hadn't. if you look betwwen the cam gears there are two threaded bolt holes. i machined a t shaped bracket that bolts on there and the alternator hangs down from that with the orignal suzi belt and a mini alt tensioner. i will post pics when i canget more time on the net.
i have also just hacked up my manifold for my gsxr carbs to fit.
while i'm here has any 1 used the piper cams or kent cams i believe piper do an extreme road re grind and kent do pulleys for 160 plus vat.
cheers people.

Hi ppl,
Thanks a lot for your help.
I shall look into which setup will be best for me.
Swiftmini.
I got Suzuki Sports cam shaft which are almost same as Kent and piper profile.
I think they are 256/256, but my cams are 248 inlet and 256 Ex.
I also have adjustable Cam gears from Teamswift.
If you add under drive pulley, you will gaine 2Bhp as well.
All those infos, you can find in Teamswift.
Hopefully, I get more work done soon to my car....... :? .
Cheers
