Did our 2nd event yesterday in the rwd and really enjoyed it. We were around 8 secs/mile off the pace on our 1st event and that reduced to around 2 secs/mile yesterday. Ive been playing with spring rates and fitted anti roll bar to the rear. The additional pace is showing up some tyre problems (surprise/surprise) and am sure i need a plated diff(rather than the standard cossie unit). Im confident of finding another 1 to 2 secs/mile with further tweeks. Actually saw 150mph on the speedo which is the quickest i've ever gone in a mini, well any car really, and she felt quite stable without any dramas, the accel from 80-140 mph is quite impressive, change to 5th at around 110 and she still shoves you in the back  Had a couple of half spins  but i'm learning (i think). Had a moment when i changed into 2nd instead of 4th which made the back end step out a bit :) All in all , great fun.!!

What also takes some getting used to in a mini is the amount of brake bias you can have on the rear without drama's, such as say braking hard from 130 to 60 and locking 4 wheels up into the corner and still anchors straight, not saying thats the right way to drive but interesting stuff. Try that with fwd at your peril and you'd end up dizzy from the spins. Was expecting similar but worse with rwd.
Found the avon cr500 road tyre better than the avon atb 10 sport race tyre which was a surprise as they worked very well with fwd.

Well done Rob :D

Sounds like you had a great day and all your hard work is paying off!

So you might have some unwanted Avon atb 10 sport race tyres soon then   :D

   's all round!!

Kris
Ive done forest events in my old fwd before which were great fun but ground clearance is always an issue with the mini when the 4wd's have gouged 2 deep ruts for you to tram line down. It a bit  when you get grounded on the sump guard .
Would love to have a go in the rwd though, perhaps when she starts looking a bit more 2nd hand.

Hi Rob

Will the car be having an outing at the Proflex Stages this year?

Proflex is a possibility, we did it a couple of years ago in my old mini and really enjoyed it despite an action packed day, its quite gritty which plays havoc with the front of the car when your following someone, we had a bit of grit punch a hole straight thru the rad but managed to soft solder the hole at service in time. Think we were about 6th o/all going into the last stage and 1mile from the finish the throttle linkage snapped in two, we were well gutted. The sport certainly has a habit of breaking things you wouldnt have thought possible.

I hope to be at the Proflex this year, have been servicing there the last 2 years. Not mini but chevette but at least it is running a vauxhall 16v.

Saw the old mini 2 years ago, looked as if it went well. If you do it this It might give me a chance to have a look over the new car.
