View Full Version : How have you mounted your Vaux gearchange unit?

Might sound a silly question - and i would normally just offer it up and weld in some brackets. However...

Any tips / suggestions / I'd do it differently next time's / etc?

I'll be doing it on saturday, once the hubs are on and the wiring loom in...

Also - I am thinking that it'll end up pretty close to the hand-brake lever if mounted far enough back for it still to be reached... Anyone reckon it's much of an issue?

Cheers,
D

and

are mine, both are lifted up to get the tube as straight as possible. Think most of the others I've seen are pretty much the same.

Don't think closeness to the handbrake is much of an issue, as long as the driver can easily operate it then thats all that matters, would think the seats would get in the way first???

it depends on the seats you are using as to whether you can reach it.

my recaros are bolted straight to the floor which gives loads of leg room but you have to reach to touch the gear stick.

ideally i would move the handbrake back.

I moved mine back to where the handbrake used to sit, as I couldn't reach is strapped in. I have rewelded the handbrake mechanism brackets to the side, and put the cable on a small pulley, so that it won't pull on the piss. If you mount it in front of the handbrake you will struggle to reach it once strapped in. You have to be quiet careful where you put in, as well if you have harnesses, as it can interfere with the straps.

Fitting the top arms and suspension tonight, then making the alternator bracket, and fitting the pedal box.
Engine will be dropped in Thursday night.

If you need a hand give us a ring mate ! :)
I'll trade you for the return of a shiney crank pulley :) !
