The only info I've got is 2nd hand, but I read a discussion on Migweb that said that a standard XE running 48s is likely to have fairly crappy throttle response as the butterfly is bigger than needed which compromises gas speed (even if you use a relatively small venturi). I'm not sure you can get a manifold that will fit the 48s correctly anyway. 45s seems to be the preferred choice for most. Certainly it's what I'm gonna go for. I'm also looking on eBay but decent sets seem to be going for 250-300 quid recently. That's still a lot cheaper than new though. Don't forget to allow for the cost of a manifold, throttle linkage and re-jetting. That can easily add up to another £150.

i think maz ran 48's before going injection , and it did fit in the mini ,
i ran 40's on my ECO-TEC , and made my own manifold.
i picked up my two 40's for 75 quid , which was allot cheaper than 45's at the time.
but you pays your money and takes your choice. as 2nd carbs will wear , and every time i took mine on the rollers people said that the spindles where leaking air in , which normally effects idle.

48's are a bit too big for the road, 45's will give you better throttle response for road use. Cost wise I would think your looking at £300 for a decent set and then you have rolling road setup on top of that.
Have a look at Matts main website for details of his homemade throttle bodies and management as I'm sure you could do the same for similar cost as the carbs but end up with a better setup

45's with 36mm chokes is what you need.
48's give poor air velocity at low speed and make the motor lumpy at idle and part throttle, good for WOT though :D physical size is about the same for both.
Hope that answers your question.

youll need 45s, as im running, 48s are to big, do try not to get second hand unless you no the vehicle they have come of as you could be just buying a load of crap and spending loads to get them right, i no through experience, so i bit the bullet and spent the £460 for a new set pre jetted for a standard 2.0xe lump it will also cost you £140 for a inlet manifold.
i sold my crap carbs over the net for £200

From my experience buy new. i bought a weber 40 and inlet from mini max at mini in the park. i was told it was of a 1380. I fitted it and petrol poured out from where it fits onto the inlet. I had it tuned up on a rolling road and it cost a fortune getting the float level sorted out by an expert and the inlet on it was a load of crap so i had to buy a new one of those too!!

its not as easy as buying a set of 45's and bolting them on , but if you are willing to spend some time , learn you can get it to work ..and understand allot more about tuning engines !
power wise it should be the same

i'll be using 45's when I do my install this summer.
As for where to buy them i'm gonna look around and speak to plenty of people to get a good idea - not sure about ebay as you can't usually get a good look at what you're buying !
