hi guys,
i'm am going to look at a honda civic tomorrow morning for a donor car. I have read other posts about getting the right engine, the B16a is the one i want 160BHP. Can anyone please confirm with me just to re assure myself
that i'm about to buy the right car!! It is a 1994 L reg honda civic vti. It has been advertised as having 160BHP i just don't want to end up with the wrong one and waste my money!!
Thanks for any help

If the engine has B16A1 or B16A2 stamp it will be what you want.
The early B16A1 are suppose to have 150bhp but I have seen conflicting info about this on the net, I'm pretty sure a 94 model B16 would have the 160bhp version.
my engine is out of a 1993 civic vti, and it has 160bhp, so i should be ok. if the engine is still in the car see if you can have a drive, cos these engines have a week syncro mesh in 5th gear. change at highest possible revs to see if it crunches etc, if it does then replace it before you put it in the mini cos living with double clutching is not fun.

Well i've left a deposit on it and i'm going back wednesday to get it.
I don't know what i was worried about with regards to looking for the B16a stamp. Found it no problem at all. I had a drive and my god was it quick  . I really can't wait to get it in the mini. It needs a new synchromesh on third gear but i know that ive got all the bits i need to complete the conversion with standard injection.
Thanks for all your advice again
:D

Good stuff, I wish I had stuck with getting a complete car rather than an engine and box, it should make it easier if you are using the Honda ECU etc
Good luck with the project

Hi MiniTec
I 've rebuild an Y2 gearbox last week because the sync 3/4/5 was broken..
It 's not that hard to replace the parts..
Honda Partnr # 23626-PS1-315 is fifth Sync set €97
Honda Partnr # 23623-PY1-E00 is third and fourth Sync set €142
Good luck,
Marko

I also have seen on Honda forums that B16A has been referred to as JDM and then the serial number designates the rest of the info. Usually the JDM's would have ZC on them but I am more familiar with the D series than the B.
