hey everyone, im at the stage where i have to start connecting all the lights, head, brake indicators, and things like the wiper motor, and a few other things, i work at garage/mechanics... and im taking the whole of next week off to work on my mini, (its been there for about 2 months now.) and im going to really get stuck into it and finish it off..

ive got my brakes sorted out pretty much, booster is under the dash, just need to make up the 2 front lines from the proportioning valve to each wheel, and the rear line, hmm :?

my question is, how do you connect the wiper motor to the suzi loom? auto elecy job or? i know a bit about elecs, but not to much.. is it a big/hard job? :)

cheers

oh and also, the brake light switch? im thinking of using it in circuit with the front leftbrake pipe, is it easy to conect to the suzui brake switch connector?

I looked at the schematics for both cars and sat down with a glass of wine to try and work it out. By the end of the 3rd glass I figured this:

1. Most OZ mini's only had one speed wipers.
2. Most mini's I know didn't have a working park circuit.
3. I rarely ever take my mini out if its rainy.
4. The 4th glass of wine and I didn't give sh*t any more.

I'm sorry but I cheated, I found a single wire from the Suzuki harness and connected that to the mini power connector and bingo. Non self parking single speed wipers.... just like all the other minis have.

One happy camper... and a just little under the weather too. (hic)

Oh and the brake light switch... I took the Suzuki switch and made a small angle bracket for it to attach to. For ease I welded the braket to the pedal box but I could have drilled and screwed it.

Easy. No wine involved in this one.

Hi,

My mini wiper motor is the two speed model. I simply played around with a battery and small jumper leads and worked out what terminal did what. I think there was five terminals on the motor, one of which I earthed directly to the body of the car and the remaining four were joined to the four coming from the suzuki loom.

I now have two speed wipers and also an intermittent option that works very very intermittently. I think there is a problem with the suzuki timer in the dash.

As for the brake light switch, I used the suzuki one. It went straight onto the original mini bracket on the pedal box.

Good luck

Simon

Sean, you had a little more perseverence than I did. I should do the job properly.

I tried what you did but I had no luck. I earthed the body and then found one connector that would power it. The one thing I was missing was the earth from the connectors. Can you tell me which one it is please.

Hi Con,

The wiper motor plug has five wires going to it. Looking at the plug, you have two terminals side by side and then another two termianls side by side and then one lone terminal on the end. The lone terminal on the end has a black wire coming from it which is the one that I earthed to the body of the car.

I did draw up a colour coded wiring diagram for the other four wires to show what mini wire was to be spliced to what suzuki wire but unfortunately I threw it away about a week ago thinking I wouldn't need it again. Sorry.

It's easy to work out what wire goes where with a test light and jumber wire and it is unlikely you will get through one glass of wine in the time it takes.

A question for you please.

My check engine light is coming on from time to time and the car is using too much fuel. The idle is also a but up and down.

I am familiar with the self diagnosis system but I think I cut out the diagnosis coupler from the loom by mistake.

Does the coupler have a purple and yellow wire on one end and a black on the other?

Thanks

Simon

Simon, Mk1 or Mk2 ECU?

Sounds like the Idle speed controller is playing up and/or the TPS. Do you have an oxygen sensor?

I used the entire GTi wiring harness, dash and steering column controls. The only bits of mini electrical are the wiper motor, head lights and tail lights. Those were relatively easy to splice in. I have lots of surperflous wiring but you never know, I may want a rear wiper/washer or boot release and other neat stuff like that one day. :D

Check all your harness plugs. I had problems at first with the CEL (check engine light) and things going a bit whacky but then I found a harness joiner unplugged and everything worked perfectly.

I got wiring diagram for mk1 Gti.
If you would like I can scan it in and send you by e-mail.

I have a mk2 service manual and small mk1 service manual.
Mk1 manual is appendix for the minor change.
It came with wiring diagram and other info.
It will be still useful to you.

Let me know what you want to do.

Thanks guys,

Like you Con, I have used everything Suzuki except for the lights and wiper motor.

Atchi, it would be great if you could scan the MK1 wiring diagram. Maybe you could post it on the site for the benefit of everyone.

Hi Simon & Con,

I shall do that but I'm not sure I can scan it in good quality and post it up.
I had a problem with less quality scan for me to read, very small writing as it is.
I could send it to Matt and posted up or something.
Anyway, I will scan it in and give you shout.

Cheers

cheers

When I installed my harness it ended up just under the brake master cylinder which is exactly where it's located on a GTi.

Keep looking its got to be there somewhere.

i found the plug, i didnt know what it looked like, it was right out in the open in front of me.. i cut about a metre of trailer plug wire and put my 4 conectors on each end, got the jump pack and found out which terminal on the mini motor did what, as the same with suzuki, hooked them up and nothing happens

ive got the local mobile auto elecy comming down once i find a mk1 wiring loom, which i cant seem to find  but hes going to swap indicator stalks over.. and go from there..
