hi guys, i have got hold of a cheap mpi 16v 1.4 k series. what exactly would i need to do to fit this in my standard mini with flipfront. i was told to get rid of the mini subframe and engine and bolt the k series one in its place. is it that simple?

yep read the faq, its quite good, using the metty subframe is the easiest solution, although more rare is to use the mgf rear subframe at the rear, you then get a bigger motor.

do you guys know what i have to do to the mini frame to allow the k series engine to fit, as i want to keep a standard length mini. is it just transfering the mountings over etc, also what bhp is expected from a mildly tuned k series and is it possible to turbocharge the k series for even more power

Put simply you keep the towers, and replace everything forwards of them. Have a look in the galleries for pics of Pickup & evolutions frames.

also what bhp is expected from a mildly tuned k series and is it possible to turbocharge the k series for even more power

I'm sure the figures are quoted a number of times, but 1.4 Mpi 103bhp as standard. Up to 130 can be achieved without major mods.

1.6 & 18, 111bhp & 118bhp up to 200bhp with major mods and money.

Can be turbocharged, there is a 1.8 turbo as standard, but not the best engine to do this to, and forget about the standard length front.

Pickup frame looks great. does he have any measurments of the frame so i could possibly build one to the same spec?

does Pickup have a contact number or anything?

not that i know of mate, but i'd be interested in what you decide to do, i'm fitting the heavy t series to my mini, and i'm going through the options at the mo, either using coil overs on a custom bracket on the metty subby, or to use the minis subby tower tops welded to the metty subby.
the custom bracket is good as i can use standard coil overs, and the mins subby towers are good as the frame can be all one then (ie i can build it all up away from the car), i'm trying to think of a way of doing both.

I like your idea dr pepper, it sounds like it might be a better/easier option than trying to build the coilover top mounts in to the roll cage. Do you know what the standard min and max lengths of the coilovers are? And out of interest, do people use uprated springs or anything cos of the heavier engine, or is there not much difference in weight between K series engine and box and A series engine and box?

To answer the weight question... my mini sits higher with the "k" than it did with the "A". but moveing the 2 engiens around with all anciliries attached, id say there is very very little in it.

Read form various sources(of the top of my head) that a "k" with ancilaries is ~100kg, and box is ~45kg

and an "a" engien and box with ancilaries is around 150kg.

my car sits notably higher, and my frame is a touch heavier(by feel).

sory its not hard fact, but from my brief experience id say theres nothing in it, weight wise.

Sorry not been in touch but have been very busy!

We do not have any dimensions of the frame, the best I can say is just chop the front section off the frame in front of the towers and try!

Try and keep the mounts in the same place so the handles is kept teh same.

Any questions please ask.

not sure what yo mean by 'standard coilovers', coilovers are not standard on a mini, you can preload them to diffrerent heights, my plan is to buy or borrow one, hold it up next to the mini then bash up a bracket to suit, my brackets gonna be a piece of plate between the mettys hydragas clamps, and angle or box to strenghten, not finalized yet but thats the idea.

roughly what speed and power are you guys running with the k series. cos contemplating tuning and fiting nos, but , if theres a fair amount of power theres no point.
