Are there any suprises likely to show up as I build the car. Reading the posts in this forum, leads me to believe its not all plain sailing

yeah theres a few!
i'd say to you when you get the engine and box make sure you get a complete unit with the engine mounts and inner cv joints.the motor i bought was missing a few bits from the clutch which cost me £50 .it was missing an engine mount £101 .the inner cv cost me another £50 .when you start adding up all these small bits and pieces it soon mounts up

yeh - little bits cost money - make sure you have the inner CV's, left and right engine mounts, clutch slave is usefull, also little things like my fuel regulator had an end broken off - would cost 100+ to get a new replacement - scrappys dont like removing it from the fuel rail - so I had to look very hard to find one from a scrappy who would remove it. Cant think of anyyting else that might be missing - but there will always be something else you want.

Bank Loan?
Keeping your enthusiasm up is another when all around you fails
When your parts searching try and but the best you can afford and don’t cut corners, I bought 3 sets of Sports Pack copies before giving in and buying genuine ones, same with stainless steel bumpers, rather than the £10 ones from the shows etc.
Also think of sod's law, anything and everything that can go wrong will go wrong, You just have to keep focused on the biggest smile you'll ever have when you first drive it.

Get as much of the donar vehicle as you can as it will make life easier in the end. I just started with a engine and box and had to source bits from elsewhere, luckly most of the ancillaries weren't needed so it was not too bad. If your doing it all from scratch, remember every one change requires five other things to be changed as a result   :o

Don't expect the first solution to work for everything. You may have to redo things and as said above, that may affect 5 other things. It would be nice to plan it all out and have it all work, but in the end some stuff comes down to trial and error. Good Luck on your project, it will all be worth it in the end. There seems to be a great group of people here to ask questions and get advice from...
